Commission

The Sustainable Development Commission (or SDC) is an integral part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a plan devised by the United Nations to bring to life 17 crucial goals for the betterment of all of humanity. Amongst these objectives are pledges to end poverty and world hunger, to reduce disparities when it comes to education and healthcare, to protect the environment against climate change, and most importantly, to have states partner together for peace and prosperity. Universal clean energy, strengthened infrastructure and developed institutions are also outlined as key steps in this process.

The SDC serves as a platform to review progress in exercising the Agenda on a global level, and to outline any regional issues that pose a challenge for its application. It works closely with the Economic and Social Council, regularly hosting summits with the participation of member states to discuss steps being taken to realize the 17 goals, with new frameworks and agreements being established to further advance sustainable development, and spur economic growth.
